The origin of Desigual
The history of the Desigual brand dates back to 1984. It was then that the Swiss entrepreneur Thomas Meyer founded a company in the beautiful sunny city of Ibiza, on an island in the Balearic Islands. Shortly after, he moved to Barcelona, on the beach of La Barceloneta. This Spanish brand, like no other, is inspired by the sun, the sea breeze and an inexhaustible thirst for life.

A brief history of fabric printing in Europe…
Humans have always been tempted to decorate their environment, starting with their clothes, their places of life and the elements necessary for their survival and well-being.
Textile printing was born out of the desire to add color and design to textile materials and can be considered as old as mankind. Early civilizations used color and design to distinguish themselves. This technique combines art, engineering and dye technology to achieve prints that were within the imagination and creativity of the textile designer.
The oldest trace comes to us from Mesopotamia, 5000 years ago, where textile decorations were used for clothing in Syrian and Babylonian performances.
In Europe, the first textile prints were found on a block of wood discovered in France at the end of the 14th century. In Germany, the family of “Tuchdruckers” or dabbers was already known in 1440. Wood engraving was practiced in the United States, in Massachusetts, New Jersey and Pennsylvania.
But the development of the screen technique began in Japan in the mid-17th century, where patterned stencils were used held together by very fine silk threads, or even human hair.
In the 18th century, the roller or cylinder printing technique began to be used. And during the 20th century, multi-color rotary screen printing made possible the production of large-scale screen prints.
Today, digital textile printing is used with computer-controlled lasers, so the prints and textile design are completely personalized.
